16 Sep 09 - New album - The Last Podcast (38MB zip)

last podcast coverI recorded this last year but due to several house relocations have just got round to putting it up. UK residents may have seen a story in the news about a fire at the Balmoral Bar in Edinburgh, in which tragically a fireman died - my condolences to his family.

So guess who lived above the bar and had to be evacuated out the back window? After hearing that the fire had burned for about 15 hours I was pretty sure that all my recording and computer equipment must have been destroyed, meaning this recording would be forever lost. However, it turned out that I had my diminutive mp3 player in my pocket, which luckily had a roughly mastered version of this album on it. The Last Podcast would be transmitted after all!

That's not quite the whole story however. As it turned out, my flat had incredibly only suffered smoke damage, with all my recording equipment intact besides a few extra cracks in my acoustic guitar. (So there's no excuses for the mixing on this recording.)

Anyway, this album is essentially an extension of the Transhuman Love Trilogy but has an apocalyptic (but still cheesy sci-fi) theme to it. Some of the songs are a bit old now but since it's half instrumental that hopefully shouldn't matter too much. You can download the title track as a taster.

15 Apr 09 - New mp3 - Fox in the City

fox in the city posterI recorded this track a couple of years ago so any perceived relevance to recent events is coincidental. You can also download a poster (see image). Note this is a hi-res file - 300dpi at A4 with 3mm bleeds - that you can take to a print shop for high quality printing, but you can print it at home too.

30 Nov 08 - Message From Xenu Video

There's an existing video for this song on youtube but in case of any copyright issues I've recorded another. A straight performance video. Sorry about the terrible sound quality but for some reason Windows Movie Maker lowers the bit depth of files from my camera.

27 Aug 08 - New EP added - Transhuman Love Trilogy (5MB zip).
For reasons known only to myself at this point this recording sounds like a scratchy 78rpm record. However, as it was recorded without overdubs - just vocal/acoustic guitar/tambourine - it probably gives a better impression of what I actually sound like playing live than the other recordings on this site.

16 June 08 - I'll be playing live at Banter in Edinburgh this Friday, 20th June, at 8:00pm. Support comes in the form of burlesque dancers. What more could you possibly desire? If you miss that I'll also be playing live at Negociants/Medina on Friday 27th June.

10 Jun 08 - I was nominated for a best of myspace show on icast recently, which was rather surprising as I didn't have a myspace page. I've since created one but my browser won't let me log in for some reason so if you ask to be my friend and get no response it's nothing personal. I probably won't be updating it anyway. Thanks to whoever nominated me.

22 Apr 08 - FASTER THAN THE RAPIDS now available.

You can now download my new album, Faster Than The Rapids, from this site or purchase higher quality mp3s through Tune Tribe. It's a fairly sparse recording, made for the most part on a four-track, and has a much looser sound than Abandon Sheeple, which isn't to say it's better or worse. For the moment you can also get a free CD copy if you purchase Abandon Sheeple, and I'll even throw in a free copy of Silver Screen Surf, making 3 cds for £5!

Preview and purchase 320Kbps mp3s (49p each, £4.99 all).

21 Mar 08 - My new album, Faster Than The Rapids, is now pretty much done. I'll put the whole thing up for download in the next few weeks. For the moment here's a taster: Li Hop mp3 (right click to download). I also recently remixed/remastered the Silver Screen Surf ep. You can download it as a zip file on the mp3 page.

3 Feb 08 - New mp3: Unsigned Band Website (right click to download). Final track from Five Portions ep. Any similarity to Hotel California is entirely accidental.

26 Jan 08 - New mp3: Year Abroad (right click to download). Fourth track from Five Portions ep.

20 Jan 08 - New mp3: McHammed (right click to download). Third track from Five Portions ep. An instrumental this time, in a sort of eastern surf style. I may change the title, not because it might give offence (I can't see why it should but who can say what will set people of a peculiar mental disposition off), rather so not to limit the exposure, as I think it's a great tune.

22 Dec 07 - New mp3: Five Portions (right click to download). Second track from Five Portions ep.

05 Dec 07 - New mp3: Trouble (right click to download). First track from Five Portions ep. I'll post the rest over the coming weeks.

02 Nov 07 - Buy It Before It's Banned!

There's a feature on me in this month's Bizarre magazine, which also has information on the government's latest authoritarian legislation that could see people prosecuted for owning it and similar material (not the feature on me obviously). I think you'll need to buy the magazine to see the feature on me as I can't see it on the website anywhere. It's (appropriately) the obscure music column piece.

I've also finished recording my debut solo album, which has the working title Faster Than The Rapids. I'll put some tracks on the site for free download in the coming months and release it for purchase whenever I feel like it.

10 Oct 07 - Mongo (right click to download), new mp3, recorded on 4-track. I’ve decided to abandon digital recording where possible as I seem to spend most of my time and cpu power making recordings sound more like tape, so thought I might as well use the real thing. I think the sound is a lot better overall.

Imperial Surf got selected as a featured track at http://www.johnpeelmusic.com/ (I’m The Hollywood Has Beens). I don’t seem to have picked up any votes or fans or whatever they have there so go over and vote for me!

11 Sept 07 - The Surfather, last track from the Silver Screen Surf EP added to download page. Surf/latin medley of The Godfather soundtrack.

2 Sept 07 - Let‘s Rocky from Silver Screen Surf EP added to download page. Cover of Gonna Fly Now, the theme from Rocky.

26 Aug 07 - Rorke‘s Drift, second track from Silver Screen Surf EP added to download page. Cover of John Barry's epic theme from Zulu.

16 Aug 07 - First mp3 added to download page: Imperial Surf - a surf version of John Williams‘ classic theme from Empire Strikes Back.
